i mean this is true but that’s why the word futch was literally created as a joke. it was a joke term created by lesbians to make fun of how straight people don’t understand what butch/femme identities are and try to categorize every lesbian as one or the other. it’s not a legitimate term and if non-wlw are interpreting it that way that’s not our fault, it’s just another attempt to take humor/memes created by wlw and trying to participate without bothering to learn the cultural and historical context of them.
also this isn’t that important i guess but your definition of femme isn’t really accurate. being femme is just as much about subverting femininity as being butch is, it’s not really about “performing femininity,” it’s about reclaiming stereotypical feminine dress and mannerisms from the male gaze.
