On one hand, I get why it’s annoying to be told by straight people “You can’t just like a pairing because it’s gay” but on the other hand, content creators will genuinely take advantage of the fact that LGBT people are so starved for representation and give us badly written gay relationships with the expectation that we’ll support them anyway.
So yes, it’s okay to appreciate a pairing more because it properly represents LGBT individuals, but we also need to make it clear that writers should be putting the same amount of effort into developing their gay pairings as they do with their straight pairings. And when they get lazy, we should call them out on it, because blindly supporting poorly written gay pairings solely because they’re gay sets a dangerous precedent.
