look i 1000% agree that lesbians need their own flag buuuuut…. do we really want the lipstick lesbian flag with zero meaning that was designed by a racist to be embraced by corporations and associated inextricably with our community? can we maybe…. find a better flag to agree on before protesting people for not using it? like i just think we need to address that the fundamental problem here is not that we have a meaningful flag and people are refusing to use it, it’s that we don’t have a fucking meaningful flag in the first place.

i think a really big problem that lesbians and bi women face is that we forget that learning to love ourselves as gay and learning to love ourselves as women are two separate struggles that don’t automatically coincide with each other. learning to accept that you love women is so important and such a major step for us, but ultimately, you’re still only learning to love the part of yourself that loves other people. because accepting your sexuality isn’t enough to free yourself from the internalized misogyny that makes you believe that you are worthless without a romantic partner; learning to embrace your love for women is not the same thing as learning to love and accept yourself, and i think that’s why a lot of us jump into relationships and get attached really quickly, because we’re in denial of our own dependence on others.
