it’s nostalgic to see all of the old characters and exciting to see their redesigns.
maybe it’s annoying that blue and green’s names are still switched, but at least they didn’t call them leaf and gary.
blue’s redesign is also reminiscent of her original manga design, which pleases me.
the new flexible nickname system is a blessing for someone as indecisive as myself.
the graphics were okay i guess.
bad things about lgpe:
it’s really stupid that they only have the original gen 1 pokemon, and “it’s a remake” is a lazy excuse.
although significantly better than pikachu, eevee is still not a pokemon I’m particularly interested in, so the “starter” options are pretty dismal.
the new catch system makes status moves way less valuable than before, which pretty much disenfranchises a good chunk of grass types.
the catch system is also highly dependent on my ability to hold my device straight, which is a fucking nightmare for someone with coordination issues.
i’m not really the type of asshole to complain about the new games being too easy but it is a little irritating that you can easily beat the entire game using only your starter. that’s not just being too easy, it’s kind of ruining the entire point of the franchise, which is to catch and train multiple pokemon…
being able to carry your box with you is nice at first, but it’s yet another new feature that seems really challenge-killing, and basically obliterates the six-member party mechanic that has existed since the beginning of the franchise.
riding pokemon is kind of a pain in the ass, and they have to be on your team for you to use them, which is a step backwards from sumo.
the tail dowsing thing doesn’t really work because you have to be walking north to even see your partner’s tail and it’s hard to distinguish between normal walking animation and “look there’s an item” animation.
they also just… got rid of abilities? and held items? for no reason?
my character’s skintone makes her look like she has a permanent sunburn.
meowth doesn’t talk?? bitch??
lavender town could’ve been way darker and WAY creepier. at least the music was good…
their sorry excuse for “character customization” has singlehandedly crushed my last remaining hopes and dreams.
there’s no story. at all. team rocket doesn’t do, like… anything. even in x/y, which also had pretty weak writing, you were consistently fighting team flare between gyms and there was actual build-up to their villainous plot. this game doesn’t have that. like, okay, i guess team rocket has an evil plan, but compared to previous games it all seems very contrived, especially considering how rarely the other characters help you fight them or even acknowledge their presence. the entire game is essentially built on battle mechanics and fanservice cameos. whatever happened to the fear of god?
